Best Buy To Sell Physical Copies Of Select Limited Run Titles

Could be a turning point for indie games…

Best Buy will begin to carry select Limited Run Games in physical stores and online. According to a press release, Best Buy initially reached out to Limited Run to show interest in selling Yooka Laylee.

This led to the beginning of a partnership that not only includes Yooka Laylee but also Golf Story and a title yet to be announced. These copies will come from the same limited print count that LRG uses for each release.

All three titles are being released for the Nintendo Switch and will sport a variant cover different from those sold on the LRG website. It was announced that some stores may only see 1 or 2 copies. When they are sold, they will not be restocked.

Limited Run Best Buy 2

Depending on the success of this partnership, this could be a turning point for indie games. With the help of a mass retailer like Best Buy, this could bring indie games toward a larger audience. This is also a remedy for those who prefer to have a physical game in their hands. I often read about the dreaded error pages and timeout screens that LRG customers can sometimes endure.

I for one am intrigued to see how this all plays out. As long as developers can make a decent profit from a partnership like this, I think that more publishers will begin to follow suit. As a gamer who grew up in the brick and mortar days, I am more than happy to hop on this train.

Some games tend to take themselves too seriously, but the hand-drawn platformer Escape Doodland represents the exact opposite and it’s due to arrive on the Switch and PC by the end of November.

Before we jump into the official details of the two-person indie project, the overly eccentric trailer for Escape Doodland should help paint a clear picture of what to expect:

After a successful Kickstarter campaign from the two indie developers, Veronika Harkavenko and Piotr Karski, Escape Doodland will finally land in the hands of supporters and fans everywhere.

There seems to be a lot going on with this idiosyncratic side-scroller, much of which we’ll try to clarify in the details below:

  • In this 2D side-scrolling platformer, players will outrun deadly threats, including the Doodler-eating Omnomus monster, as they try to escape their looming fate in Doodland.
  • As the screen continuously scrolls players must utilize quick reflexes by running, leaping, climbing, bouncing and dodging a number of obstacles as they disrupt your path to freedom.
  • The hand-drawn visuals bring a rather unique atmosphere to the quirky platformer displaying obscene character and monster designs across various themed levels, such as burning towns, western wastelands, underwater areas and even the inside of a mouth.
  • Challenge after challenge will thrust themselves at your Doodler providing non-stop action across the grotesquely absurd campaign.

Etrian Odyssey Nexus, The Final Installment In The Nintendo DS Series, Out Early Next Year In The West

Released in Japan as Etrian Odyssey X, Atlus has revealed the recently announced western release, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, will land early next year.

Mapping undiscovered worlds and strategically fending off a variety of monsters lands for the final instalment in the series on the 3DS.

In Etrian Odyssey players explore various dungeons with no established map, instead, they do the mapping themselves. Using the 3DS stylus and touch screen, you’ll navigate your way through enemy encounters and reveal the layout of every dungeon you discover.

What’s new in the sixth release in the series, Etrian Odyssey Nexus? Here’s everything we know, so far:

  • Nexus offers players the most classes to choose from in the series with 19 introducing the all-new Hero class. There are also tons of new distinct dungeons, charming characters and gameplay elements to add to adventure like never before.
  • Each character in every class can be fully customized to your liking, allowing players to create a party that suits their liking and needs to help them through Lemuria’s labyrinths.

Descent Developers Gearing Up For Private Beta Test

The upcoming prequel reboot of the classic Descent series is heading towards its testing phase, and the developers are looking at Kickstarter backers as the testers.

After utter silence over the past year, Descent developers, Descendent Studios, have finally given hope to fans awaiting the return of the iconic FPS space title.

The Descent Of Descent

After teaming up with publishing veterans, Little Orbit, the additional funds allowed the developers to expand the single-player campaign into a massive space adventure that will have long-time fans and newcomers at the edge of their seat.

The rebooted series will have players navigating their ships through tight caverns littered with unique puzzles both through a deep single-player campaign or in online multiplayer.

Those who purchased last year’s Descent: Underground through the Kickstarter campaign will be able to join in on the beta testing for the upcoming 2019 release.

“We began this journey in open development with gamers, and we want to launch that way too.” – Eric Peterson, CEO of Descendent Studios

There will be a new bundle to coincide with the launch of Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch.

Revealed yesterday, The Diablo III Switch bundle will launch along with the Switch game on November 2nd 2018. This will follow in the footsteps of the previously announced bundles of Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The bundle will include a Switch console, a download code for Diablo III: Eternal Collection, a themed Switch dock and a themed Switch case. The bundle will also be exclusive to Gamestop.

Diablo III: Eternal Collection was originally announced for Nintendo Switch back in August. It will include all previously released downloadable content along with exclusive The Legend of Zelda items.

If you were ever on the fence about playing Diablo III, this would be a great time to hop in: the game runs at 60 frames per second and supports multiple controller configurations. It also takes advantage of the Nintendo Online cloud saves feature, which is welcome considering the size of the journey you’ll have on the go.

Diablo III lives again on the Switch.
