Venturing across the island on bikes, Nessa and Demelza scavenge the lands to discover treasure and mysteries covering the intriguing island, only to find themselves determined to save the lands from inevitable destruction.

Inspirations from ’80s classics like ET to the Goonies, the developers at Foam Sword look to give gamers everywhere a true taste of nostalgic childhood memories, letting the imaginative world around them take them on an unforgettable journey. Battle your way through enemies with charming child-like “weapons” including frisbees, water balloons and puddle/mud stomping – only to name a few viable battle tactics.

The co-op experience in Knights and Bikes allows you to experience the game with another player controlling the other party member. Played locally or online, teaming up with friends (or AI) while you explore on your bikes is sure to leave a sense of wonder and mystery comfortably in your imagination.

While exploring the island you’ll be looting for treasure, then trading your items in to upgrade your bike and learn game-changing abilities. Freely roaming the land or solving mysteries and saving loved ones and islanders are other important options to help gather more info and explore the island.

With the cutesy hand-painted graphics, to the charming characters, weapons and battle system, Knights and Bikes looks to bring ’80s fans and gamers everywhere a solid and wonderful dose of nostalgic adventure. Being developed for PS4 and Steam users, Foam Sword is keeping the release date tightly sealed for now. Be sure to stay tuned for more on the exciting new indie game, Knights and Bikes.

Games Have Always Included Politically Driven Stories, Regardless of Current Events

In today’s modern era we’re stricken with political events and issues throughout our ever-changing world. Everywhere we’re reminded of current elections, political scandals and opinionated viewpoints, whether you asked for them or not. Recent trailer releases of games like Far Cry 5 and Call of Duty WWII invoke infamous global wars and familiar cult-like criminals, all while in the heat of dangerous threats making worldwide headlines against international powers and leaders.

New national Presidents, like the U.S.’s Trump, making waves across news stations and the non-stop reports of political voting fraud have seemed to increase the awareness of everyday civilians on political scandals; with commotion equal to that of the Watergate Scandal of the Nixon years. But are video games expanding their ideas to politically corrupt leaders because of current relations in politics? Hardly. In truth, video games have been handing out corrupt villains acting as political leaders throughout the decades of the entertainment medium, regardless of what happens in real world politics.

Take the Metal Gear franchise for instance. Since the original release on the NES back in 1987, creator Hideo Kojima has been increasing the fictional, but relatable, story to an unreal amount of authenticism. With its own downloadable database explaining all aspects of the long and elaborately detailed timeline, Kojima created a war-riddled world filled with corrupt governments and factions in every release throughout the series. Enhanced “super” soldiers genetically controlled by the powerful and dreadful opposing government, gun launders strategically playing off of all sides of war, and diabolical plans to have complete control over the world and its inhabitants, these are just a few examples of corrupt leaders and their actions making an appearance well before this modern era.

metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots--20070712014610150

Other series with corrupt governments and politicians range from Assassin’s Creed to Grand Theft Auto, and even to earlier Fallout titles, all with their own view of twisted leadership and questionable decision-making. The Final Fantasy series has also featured many overpowering governments and political forces, quick to make use of the land’s resources, the game’s mystical power “magi” and even civilians populating the fantasy worlds. Many game developers use these ideas based on what we see in the real world, to a somewhat smaller degree, but the use of video games allows us to dive into a more surreal corrupted environment; to play the hero that dissolves the overthrowing government.

Because, at the core of gaming, that’s primarily what the average gamer seeks: to be the hero. It’s easy to place a character into an intense atmosphere, where a powerful force ravages the lands and towns, giving the innocent lives no chance for a happy life. We’ve created an average villain in corrupt political leaders, soaked in by what surrounds us in the everyday norm. No, scandalous leaders are nothing short of being yet another predictable antagonist for gamers alike; it has become something we’re accustomed to seeing in our everyday gaming library, and that’s quite alright. For the sake of humanity, let’s hope these audacious stories do not become any closer to reality than what they’ve already predicted.

Taster: The Crew 2 – Like No Other Racing Game You’ve Played

Ubisoft has been known to push out action titles left and right, giving players an adventure through Renaissance Italy, a hacker-filled San Fransisco Bay area or even the primal ages of the Mesolithic era. But stepping in another direction, developers at the busy studio(s) have continued to build a franchise combining racing with deep MMO elements. In 2014 The Crew was released and gave racing fans everywhere a massive open world racer with the map stretching from east coast to west coast in a stunning, condensed version of the United States. Later, a stand-alone release gave racers the ability to speed across the vast lands on powerful motorcycles, wetting the appetite of even more racing fans. Announced at this year’s E3, The Crew 2 will not only give fans more of what they loved from the first entry but will greatly expand the diverse and broad racing series.

With the primary focus on Motorsports of all varieties, The Crew 2 adds much more depth to the already massive racing game. Keeping what fans loved about the first entry like the huge map stretching across the US – including famous landmarks and cities all along the stretching highways – a large selection of purchasable cars and deep customization options, The Crew 2 will now feature aerial stunt plane racing and wave-ripping boat races. What’s more, is you’ll be equipped with the ability to smoothly transition between any of these vehicles on the go, giving players an immense racing experience like no other.

The overall goal of playing through the campaign in The Crew 2 is to become the champion of all Motorsports in Motornation. At the core of the racing experience sits the street racing scene. Familiar in most other racing franchises, taking to the streets in sprint races, cutting sharp corners and dodging oncoming traffic returns from the first entry of the game. Racing in all regions of the enormous map from windy country roads to long desert stretches, to high mountain passes in any automotive form including the return of motorcycles, there’s plenty of adrenaline filled street races to feed your speed addiction.

boats.jpg

Pro racing circuits and off-road events also come equipped in the giant racing package of The Crew 2. Tuning your racing machine, adding off-road tires for more tread or racing slicks to navigate around closed circuits as quickly as possible are just a few more options to keep the player engaged in this diverse Motorsports title. Acting as a less organized checkpoint race, Rally Raid puts players in off-road buggies for hill-hopping action, with all sorts of terrains at your disposal, making your way from start to finish in whichever way you find the fastest.

New racing sports added include the all new powerboat and nimble stunt plane racing. The powerboat competitions feature fast, agile machines designed to zip their way through rivers and other waterways. Obstacles like boat ramps and powerful waves – created either from natural occurrences or other racers – keep the high-rush water races full of adrenaline fueled moments. While the stunt planes offer a completely different perspective in the world of The Crew 2, there’s just as much full throttle moments as land or sea events. Barrel rolls and gliding past the smoke trails of competing airborne racers, the new aerial racing will give you beautiful views of legendary landmarks like the Rocky Mountains or the Grand Canyon, all across the vast land of the United States.

The Crew 2 utilizes the massive open world that Ubisoft developers created in the first entry, as well as the addictive “arcade” racing style gameplay. Taking this formula and adding almost every type of major Motorsports possible, giving players the freedom to transition between land, air and sea races at anytime, is sure to make the sequel feel fresh and exciting.

Expect to see The Crew 2 in early 2018 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC systems. For early access check out the “Open Beta” sign up page from Ubisoft.

Taster: Anthem – A Look at BioWare’s new IP

At this year’s E3, BioWare teased gamers on day one. It was during the EA Play conference that they showed us what they had been working on for five years. After the initial tease, a message stated that more would be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 Conference. So finally, at the end of the two-hour press event held by Microsoft, the last game featured was BioWare’s new online “Destiny-killer”: Anthem.

A full-out online adventure, pitting the human race at the bottom of the barrel, you explore the vast lands in your ‘Javelin’, an exosuit designed to keep you alive when leaving the safety of the settlement’s walls. The main settlement, which acts as a ‘hub’, allows the player to customize Javelin suits and take on more missions and quests.

Stunning graphics, visuals and lighting, the gameplay footage seen at E3 2017 looked as smooth as any game to date. Taking the role of a freelancer, you explore outside the barrier of the walls of Fort Tarsis, to protect humanity and make new discoveries to further aid the human race. The gorgeous, expandable, open world full of unknown mysteries and surprises, along with what the Lead Designer of the project, Corey Gaspur calls “an amazing BioWare story”, is enough to hype plenty of fans looking forward to expanding their online expeditions.

Though previewed with online play and a large focus surrounding online co-op quests, BioWare states that Anthem is completely playable as a solo campaign, reaching out to those not interested in sharing the experience with other players. With deadly threats and ambushes throughout the world of Anthem though, online co-op might be what saves your life in dicey situations.

anthem2

The upgradable Javelin suit gives your player personality in and out of battle. Different variations of the suits, like the quick and nimble Ranger, or the mega strength Colossus model – good for taking out dangerous enemies – as well as other models not yet mentioned, leave a strong sense of uniqueness to each exosuit. Said to be “heavily customizable”, these suits give you the creative controls to make your Javelin look and play as you wish. In the demo footage from E3, the Javelin is also shown submerging underwater with a continuous thrust from the jet-pack, making traversing the vast world as exciting as it is impressive.

The combat system in Anthem looks similar to BioWare’s Mass Effect, with cover and shoot gameplay, along with special abilities equipped on the Javelin – like the mortar bomb attached to the colossus or the missile barrage on the ranger displayed in the demo. With talk of various additions to add to the Javelin exosuits, you can expect more options and weapons to make their way into the world of Anthem.

anthem3

Dangerous foes and giant beasts are not the only threatening disturbance in the dynamic realm. Shaper Storms and other world events will see you fighting through furious winds and lightning, and upon completion of these, more events will be unlocked. At the end of the E3 demo footage, the player is shown, purposely, flying directly into the heart of the storm where other players wait.

Not many details were released about Anthem’s overall playability. The healthy dose of gameplay was more than enough to get fans excited for the new IP however. We also know that Anthem is set to release on the PlayStation 4/Pro, Xbox One/One X and PC, sometime in 2018. Be sure to check back with D-pad Joy for more updates on BioWare’s exciting new game.

Review: Armed with Wings: Rearmed (PC)

Armed with Wings: Rearmed is a flashy, fast-paced 2D hack em’ up/platformer game with a sleek, new approach to the genre. Previously released as a Flash Game in 2008, Rearmed slices its way onto Steam with this updated and addicting slasher. Playing as a lone samurai, the striking silhouette swiftly glides across the levels, slashing through the many enemies thrown in your direction. Equipped with your trusty blade harnessing the power of lightning and your faithful Eagle, you’ll embark on a furious journey to stop the evil tyrant’s – King Vandheer – overpowering authority.

Daniel Sun of Australian based animation studio, Sun Studios, has created a samurai adventure that adds extra value to the platforming genre. Entering the world of Blackmist, you run through short levels wiping out any opposing soldiers who will try to cut your blade-swinging life short. Coming across, (sometimes rather tedious), puzzles, your Eagle companion will lend a wing to fly to areas unreachable by man. Retrieving relics, scouting ahead or even acting as a useful distraction are all vital elements accompanied with your screeching ally.

Though many levels have you gracefully slashing your way through various enemies, other levels, later on in the story, are strictly platforming based. Calling on the Eagle to find and carry orb keys to unlock gates blocking your path, methodically using jump pads to clear dangerous hazards or completing a series of enemy waves coming from either direction, a solid dose of challenges keep your samurai journey feeling fresh all the way through.

armed-with-wings-1446781230172_1280w

The combat with your lonesome samurai warrior is fluid and swift, allowing easy button inputs to dodge and cut your way through surrounding enemies. Harnessing the power of thunder and lightning, you’re capable of dealing a charged strike downward, unloading a great deal of ravaging damage. The push of a button allows a ‘dance’-like skill to leap around your enemies, making you feel like a true, untouchable samurai warrior. This defensive mechanic is significantly helpful when dealing with tough soldiers/bosses further in the game. No jump action is present through most of the game – your player will automatically leap from ledge-to-ledge when running straight through – though additional skills may add this ability as you progress.

Tons of weapons become available to help aid you on your expedition, each with their own traits, and some even with exceptionally useful bonus skills, like health regeneration or the tactical advantage to ‘Jump’. There are all different kinds of blades from classic katanas to broad swords and hook swords; Rearmed gives plenty of variety and stats to base your combative decision on. Found throughout the game when dropped by fallen foes, you’ll also unlock more weapons with score points earned by collecting glowing bubbles (also used as health) and dealing with enemies in both Story and Survival modes.

In Survival Mode – like a few levels found in the campaign – waves of enemies spawn in timed fashion, leaving you alone to deal with them before they’re able to deal with you. Though, much tougher than the wave trials found in the main story, these survival waves offer a chance for more points, in turn giving you the ‘edge’ in combat later down the line. Everything from your standard grunt enemies to elites and even bigger boss-type monsters appear in Survival Mode, so being prepared with the best weapon load out proves useful when conquering the next fierce wave.

WALLPAPER.png

With dozens of unique weapons fused with unique skills and traits, two more bonus playable characters to unlock and an addictive style gameplay, Armed with Wings: Rearmed brings stylish 2D action to the lucrative platforming table. Short, to-the-point levels (some offering multiple ending points for enhanced replayability), Survival and various two-player modes like one-on-one weapon battles and tournaments, there’s a good helping of content to feed your samurai hunger.

A solid helping of hack ‘n’ slash vengeance mixed with unique puzzle solving mechanics, Armed with Wings: Rearmed brings beautiful carnage to the platforming genre.

E3 2017: ‘A Way Out’ Reveal Trailer, from the makers of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

At the E3 press conference for Electronic Arts, known as EA PLAY, they unveiled new DLC’s, sequels and a couple of new IP’s, one of which is looking to bring back the beloved split-screen experience. Rising from the success of the hit 2013 title, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out focuses on delivering a true co-op game, making it a must to continue through the story with a friend.

Starting off in prison, you’ll follow Vincent and Leo, two inmates drawn to each other and adhered a bond formed by one goal, to escape prison. Footage taking you through the escape itself and the epic journey afterward, high-tense moments are sure to ensue in this duo’s adventure.

Showcasing the use of split-screen by viewing a cinematic on one side, and controlling gameplay on the other, moving through the story seamlessly works beautifully. The reveal trailer gives gamers plenty of footage of how well this works and a grasp on the entertaining protagonist couple. With street-style brawls, gun shoot-outs with cops and a broad range of settings, A Way Out looks to fill every reason we still need co-op story gameplay.

Check out the official E3 trailer below and check back for more updates upon the release of A Way Out, coming early 2018.

Sonic Mania release date announced with new trailer

The return of a classic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog platformer will make its long-awaited debut later this summer and the new trailer from SEGA shows off what we’ve been waiting for. Returning to its roots in 16-bit form, Sonic Mania shows off nostalgic presence for many who (like myself) poured hours into the early Sonic games of the Genesis era.

High demand for the Sonic team to put together a game bringing gamers back to the classic era has been circulating for quite some time, even after the sub-par release of the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 episodes. With HD graphics complimenting the 2D side-scroller, the mechanics never quite met the expectations of the eager fan base.

SEGA listened and now we’re just a couple of months away from what could be the Sonic fans’ answer to the hopeful return to 16-bit form. Excelling through re-imagined familiar levels like Flying Battery Zone from Sonic & Knuckles, Emerald Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the original classic Green Hill Zone from the first title in the series, there’s also new levels to experience as one of the three faces of the franchise – Sonic, Tails or Knuckles. Pushing 60 FPS, Sonic Mania comes with powerful bosses and surprises and an adventure to put a stop to Dr. Eggman’s evil robots.

Sonic_Mania_GHZ_Act_1_SonicTails_1495557606

The new Sonic Mania pre-order trailer gives us a taste of brand new levels mixed with old classics from the games that started it all for the “blue blur”, along with its digital release coming this August 15th to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Releasing later this year is a new 3D Sonic title, Sonic Forces, coming to the same consoles as well.

Taster: Tekken 7 – What to Expect

Standing amongst the brigade of brawling titans that are Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, the Tekken franchise has stood tall and proud now for 20 years – and soon enough its seventh numbered title and tenth major installment will hit consoles everywhere. Not much has been released on the combo fighter thus far, but a stylish trailer released byĀ Bandai Namco has given us quite the tease. There’s plenty of new qualities and upgrades being shown off, so let’s break it down and see what we’re getting when Tekken 7 finally hits store shelves.

Since the release of the wildly successful Injustice 2, fighting fans everywhere have been getting their fix of excellent content. Not too far behind, making a grand entrance on the current gen era of consoles and PC, Tekken 7 is adding more combo stringing action to the growing realm of fighting legends. As the original 3D fighter, Tekken has held a strong fan base throughout its long twenty year tenure and helped revolutionize the genre – Tekken 7 is looking to remind fans and gamers everywhere why it’s still around and fighting strong.

Flashy moves, punchy soundtrack and combos, the Tekken 7 trailer swings into full effect highlighting the new features that comes equipped with the new fighter. The all-new ‘Rage Art’ battle system acts as powerful moves to shift the ever-flowing tide of battle. Tactical unique skills known as ‘Rage Drive’ provide special combo moves specific to each fighter. Turning the fight in your favor just got a little easier with ‘Power Crush’, an armored move allowing a momentum shift, blasting through enemy moves.

tekken

Enhancing the fighting experience also makes an impressive introduction to the series with slow motion ending battle scenes, showcasing tight matches ending in a single, decisive attack. With lively fighting stages, the blistering combat isn’t the only thing keeping the action full throttle. Day changes, weather shifts, music and stage transfers – all of which add more direct and immersive action, giving players a true, dramatic fighting brawler.

The story mode takes you through the series’ famous storyline of the Mishima saga. With beautiful cinematic detail and cut scenes, matches will seamlessly blend all along the story, keeping the player thoroughly engaged from start to finish. Furthermore, guest characters will make their appearance; the trailer showing off an epic battle between Street Fighter mega bruiser Akuma squaring off against the Tekken hero himself, Kazuya Mishima. Other guest character have not yet been announced but we know of at least two more spots on the roster will be added in a later DLC.

akuma.jpg

Lastly, the online features are covered, and proudly presenting a first in the Tekken franchise, 8-player tournament mode, as well as ranked matches. High risks playing online also come with high rewards, earning large amounts of in-game money, which can be spent on customization items, player profiles and health bars, not only changing the appearance of the fighter, but adding a personalized look to your most dedicated players.

So far, the fighting genre has been struck by greatness already once this year with the recent release of Injustice 2. Tekken 7 is hoping to show us greatness can strike possibly twice, and only weeks apart. Whether it’s the climactic fight scenes, unique roster of fighters or the fluid combo based gameplay that draws you to Tekken, the next installment looks to deliver fast-paced, heart-pounding action, leaving players breathless along the way.

PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC owners will have their chance to see what the newest title in the series has to offer when Tekken 7 releases Friday, June 2nd, while Switch owners are still clinging to the hope that one day, they too, will have their opportunity.

Far Cry 5: ‘The Resistance’ Character Trailers

Far Cry 5 has been hovering over the past couple of months with small leaks and rumors keeping the gaming world stern on its toes. With a vague teaser released earlier this week further confirming the next installment in the series, today Ubisoft came through and knocked fans off their feet with five lengthy trailers to soothe our taste buds a bit more. The release trailer has been making its rounds on the internet everywhere but more importantly there are three protagonist trailers sending more chills down our eager spines.

GFH_1080p_ESRB_GOLD_1495792039

The first of the three character trailers is the pilot Nick Rye. With Ubisoft stating the new Far Cry world will feature free exploration in lands, waters and skies, expect this pilot to make a demanding presence throughout the campaign. With a heavily militarized past and a son of his own on the way, Nick leaves everything on the table to fight for his family and their freedom.

Next is the foul-mouthed local bartender, Mary May. Speaking of rich memories of her past and where her future is headed with the current religious reign, she vows to take back what’s hers. With an arsenal of molotov cocktails ready behind the bar, it’s safe to say Mary May is not a local to be taken lightly.

Not all in the community practicing religion are lost in the way of the cult. Stricken by the falsehoods of the Father Joseph and his religious family, Pastor Jerome Jeffries realizes it’s too late to act as savior and deal with this problem himself.

An eccentric cast of characters is looming around the Far Cry 5 name, from cooperative AI to the charismatic cult leader villain Joseph and his “children”, the outlandish tone of the series continues to deepen. Hope County is full of colorful residents who will come together by your hand to form the Resistance, a rebel group squaring off against the controlling cult family.

Liberating the community of Hope County will be no easy task but on the way you’ll encounter a variety of vehicles ranging from American muscles and big rigs to ATVs, boats and even planes to engage in aerial dogfights against cult forces. The open skies isn’t something particularly new to the Far Cry franchise but open air combat throughout Big Sky Country is bringing a new epic direction of taking on opposing forces. Along the way you’ll meet a few prominent characters to help take back Hope County and knock off the brain-washed, religiously entrenched cult.

Plane_GOLD_1080p_1495792039

Far Cry 5 will take the player and put them in control of a junior deputy set in Hope County, Montana, a fictional setting cut-off from the world and overrun by a fanatical religious cult named Eden’s Gate. With new co-op gameplay, a wide variety of customizable weapons and vehicles, recruiting Guns for Hire from a large cast of characters as well as the all-new animal allegiance Fangs for Hire, Far Cry 5 is set to raise the bar on their own franchise with yet another memorable villain and cast.

Look for more on Far Cry 5 up until its release coming Feburary 27th 2018 on PlayStation 4/Pro, Xbox One/Scorpio and PC.

Taster: Gran Turismo Sport – Beta reveals high-end graphics, frame-rate details and a brand new course

In the world of gaming there’s enough instances of games being pushed back for later release dates to keep us used to the idea, and somewhat expecting, for certain titles. Gran Turismo Sport was initially set to release all the way back in the holiday of 2016 but has since been put on hold for an un-announced date. That being said, there has been a release of a closed beta offering a look at what the folks atĀ Polyphony Digital have to offer for the seventh installment (not including 2007’s Prologue) of the long running racing sim series.

Thanks to the folks at Eurogamer, a detailed video of the closed beta in action has provided us with answers to a few unanswered questions. A closer look at the game’s frame-rate shows off polished looks on the cars and courses bringing the game to life in spectacular detail. Vivid colors showcase the game’s finely tuned graphics and pristine imaging across the three different courses throughout the beta test, including the new course Dragon Tail. Check out the guys at Digital Foundry’s run-through below of the beta below:

Beautiful detail embraces the racer in extraordinary fashion with impressive car models and the familiar realism that comes as an anchor in the Gran Turismo series. The lighting, shading, color tones and wonderful materials and textures gives the 4K experience a sense of gratification beyond the previous releases in the franchise. With a much smaller list of cars rounding somewhere near the 140 mark, the game will focus more on the racing, both online and offline, giving the player the feel of a true racing sim.

One big addition to the customization side of the game is the livery editor. Finally. Now racers have the ability to create and design their own unique livery and graphics for their vehicles giving a bit more personality to your racing machine. Additionally, you’re capable of sharing your favorite designs online with friends and other racers, showing off your creative side to the world.

There’s still much about the new title we’re not very clear on. How much different is Sport compared to other numbered games in the series, if at all? Is Sport acting as more of a half-way point to Gran Turismo 7 or taking the roll as a major release in the series? And, most importantly, will it deliver new, fresh and, at this point, crucial enhancements to various aspects of the game to keep it from declining further into staleness of the franchise? With no official release date on paper and E3 right around the corner, keep your eyes peeled for more on this title in the near future.

Far Cry 5: Ubisoft Releases Short Teaser Trailer Showing Off New Setting in Montana

Far Cry 5 has been rumored to be in development earlier this year from a tweet sent out byĀ Ubisoft with a simple logo. Ubisoft has confirmed the leak after releasing a short trailer depicting the location of the next first-person, mercenary-esque shooter taking place in Montana. Revising its familiar setting away from the more exotic locations, the rural American landscape still provides untouched isolation and beautiful scenery that has come with every Far Cry in the series, regardless of the time period.

After the Mesolithic era of the series’ sixth installment (including the retro 80s style release of Blood Dragon) Far Cry Primal, reinventing itself, moving the game to something new and fresh is crucial for keeping the series running strong.

The trailer is made up of four sequences all showing real-life beauty (as opposed to gameplay or cinematics) of the fictional setting known as Hope County, Montana. A blood curdling scream disturbs a flock of birds high in the mountains, a body drifts along a steady river stream, a man running through a vast field followed by a single gun shot and finally, a solitary church rings its bell over a choir singing Amazing Grace. As the camera quickly zooms past the bell tower, a man can be seen ramming the head of another man to fire off the bell tolls.

One bit of info that is important to note is that it doesn’t seem to take place in the early 1900s or “Wild West” era of American history. Sticking with what pieces of clothing suggest is the modern timeline, Ubisoft is steering clear ofĀ Red Dead Redemption 2 territory, leaving more of a distinguishing difference between the two titles that may very well end up releasing alongside each other.

Earlier rumors about the game have stepped in to suggest a cult-like religion at the center of the story. With the final scene showing the white chapel with a bit of added violence, it’s not too far-fetched to assume that’s the case. More info is to be revealed this Friday, May 26th about the game and you can bet Ubisoft has plans to hit the industry with more information coming this E3.

Until then, keep your heads up for more on the popular shooter and stay tuned for updates.

Review: Injustice 2 (PS4)

The release of Injustice 2 is finally among us and NetherRealm Studios has delivered yet another deep and engaging fighter, piling on more modes and characters than its predecessor. Sticking with the darker edge in an alternate DC universe, where even the most light-hearted super heroes aren’t afraid of turning the tide in favor of doom and gloom, Injustice 2 takes you on an epic story giving you almost 30 characters to fight your way through. On top of the devious story mode there’s the multiverse, plenty of rare equipment and other online/multiplayer modes to keep the game from stalling out well past its release.

The game itself looks stunning. Impressive animations and CGI run smoothly leaving Injustice 2 in the top of its class as one of the sharpest looking games to date. The story mode is filled with gritty cut scenes and high-impact versus matches switching between the immense roster of characters, each chapter pertaining to a different hero (or villain). Delving deeper and deeper into the chaotic realm of the DC universe, it’s increasingly satisfying catching new characters share a little spotlight, as well as some lesser known comic book personalities showing off their abilities. Of course, the more prominent names share a demanding role creating the grander stage for the irreplaceable super heroes that we all know and love.

INJUSTICE-2-Everything-We-Know-So-Far-12

Stringing together brutal combos, leading into one of the characters’ many super moves, leaves an all-too-real gratification, engrossing you in every match. Each character comes with an assortment of special moves, from Batman’s grappling hook attack to the Green Lantern’s power ring. With a long list of varying combo and basic attacks, each superhero/villain also has a unique Character Power. With the push of a button each player performs a new move or enhances other skills giving more depth to the fighting ring. Environmental hazards and weapons play a huge part in turning the tables during the heat of battle as well. Whether you’re flinging a table across the screen or bouncing your enemy off a movie theater marquee, the 3D setting leaves a broad sense of perception in the 2D fighting plain.

The Super Meter acts like most other meters in previous fighting games. Filling with every hit landed or taken, once completely full you’re able to land a seriously outrageous attack known as a Supermove, not only dealing a massive amount of damage but showing off over-the-top superhuman strength. Using only a portion of the meter at a time combined with a special move causes a Meter Burn attack, which increases the damage done, adds extra hits or grants the ability to follow-up with combos. Graciously using up your super meter for stronger attacks or risking it all at once for a crucial strike is all part of the strategy during the intense brawls.

injustice 2 clash

Offense isn’t the only purpose for use of the super meter. Drawing power from the meter, you can escape potential long running combos or attacks by starting what’s known as a Clash. Working in the sense of a wager, the characters go elbow-to-elbow, one player bets a portion of their super meter against the other’s bet. Whoever wins based on the difference of the wagers will either gain health if playing as defender, or the enemy will lose health, if you’re on the offensive. Following strict guidelines for when they can be used, one player may only perform one clash attack per match, leaving this method as a game changer if properly achieved.

Aside from killer graphics with addictive gameplay and a stunning story, there’s other engagements keeping you occupied in the game. Multiverse serves as a challenge map, giving you constant online updates with all new ways of fighting in the game, including modifiers that manipulate the match. Sometimes in your favor, other times not, the mods that are applied range from giving out health boosts to cryo rockets being steadily dropped upon you. The true multiverse opens up after completing three tutorial challenges, giving you a healthy dose of fighting but only a fraction of what you’ll be up against later on.

Injustice-2-Harley-Batman

Equipping different pieces of gear, receiving new stat buffs and other various perks like bonus experience or additional damage from certain moves, is a perfect incentive to grind out battles in multiverse. From head pieces and helmets, arms, greaves, belts or chest pieces, there’s loads of equipment, including rare epic pieces that significantly boost your player’s stats. Not only do they enhance fighting capabilities but also add a little style to the game, giving you the option to change the traditional appearances of the characters. Though not available right away, equipment pieces are all level-locked for each character, all with tons of pieces, so sticking with one specific hero is vital for leveling up.

Various online modes are found as well as offline multiplayer, with classics like versus ranked/unranked matches, tournaments and the all new AI Battle Simulator. Acting almost like horse racing or some form of spectator fantasy league, you build your team of three, challenge a player’s team online and watch the battles ensue. Building your heroes up with appropriate gear helps tip the scales in your favor, all while trying to earn more precious rare equipment. Other rewards you may earn are known as Mother Boxes, which contain loot based upon the ranking of the box: bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. These are easily obtained and are great ways to build your gear library, keeping the customized equipment plentiful as the game progresses.

Injustice 2 goes well beyond its purpose as a ā€˜AAA’ fighter, during what seems to be, a drought in the fighting genre. With fluid combos and universal comfort with almost every character, there’s still a strong sense of individuality, leaving a desire to try out a large amount of the available cast based upon how you approach the game. With one climactic moment after another, Injustice 2 hits you where you feel it, throws plenty of options into the mix and commits to being a demanding fighter with breakthrough equipment options and gameplay, while leaving you breathless and exhilarated along the way.
