Worms W.M.D blasts its way onto Switch November 23rd

Team 17 has announced that November 23rd is the release date for Worms W.M.D on the Switch. We told you it would be before Christmas.

Worms W.M.D – Portable Wormy Mayhem

One of the best Worms games in years, Worms W.M.D on the Switch features the following:

  • All the campaign missions from the Xbox One and PS4 versions
  • All the wacky customisations and extra updates
  • That’s including the Liberation campaign and Forts Mode

As you’d hope with the portability side of things, there’s single Joy-Con support, local wireless multiplayer, hot seat, local and online multiplayer.

In terms of new content, you’ll find a Space theme, Mushroom and Tree House forts, three added outfits and three new gravestones.

And it’s coming out at £19.99 ($29.99 USD), meaning it’s a fiver more for that bonus content and portability.

Super Mario headed to the big screen

There is a reason why Nintendo stopped making movies based on its intellectual property over 23 years ago. That simple reason has a simple name: Super Mario Bros. A universally panned, disgrace of a movie that scared the big N away for decades.

Yes, this one.

This however, is all about to change. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo, under the guidance of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, are in discussions to bring Mario and all his pals (and enemies) to the big screen in a new, 3D animated adventure.

A deal is reportedly close at hand with Illumination Entertainment, the minds behind the Minions movie, to partner with Nintendo on this big screen venture.

If this venture succeeds, Nintendo could potentially look into bringing some of their other famous faces to theatres far and wide.

We all know big screen video game adaptations have been disappointing over the years, save for a few gems in the crowded field. It’s everyone’s hope that with Nintendo working closely alongside Illumination, perhaps Mario will finally see big screen success after his long 32-year-old life.

Capcom is developing Ace Attorney for Nintendo Switch + other games

Capcom is finally supporting the Switch – maybe those recent sales have helped things along.

Ace Attorney Switch – It’s Happening

It’s taken quite some time, yes, but in an interview with Jiji, Capcom’s COO has said that the company is indeed developing Switch games aimed at release after April next year.

Curiously, and much to the delight of courtroom and crime fans all over, one of these titles will be an Ace Attorney game:

We don’t know whether this will be a new instalment in the lawyering series, but we can certainly hope so. Ace Attorney 7 would be great, but something a little less exciting like HD remasters of the first games could be the actual reality here. The latter is, of course, a safe way of doing things, and while this writer wouldn’t say no, a brand new Ace Attorney game would be a strong addition to the Switch’s growing library.

As for those other titles, we’d imagine a Resident Evil of some sort is potentially on the cards. Could Resident Evil 7: Biohazard even run on the Switch? If Doom can, we suppose it’s possible. Although a Resident Evil: Revelations 3 would be more welcome at this point. We also wouldn’t rule out Street Fighter V and the Mega Man games either.

Nevertheless, it’s exciting news and we can expect to hear more next year.

Factotum 90

Indie title Factotum 90 gets a PS4 and PS Vita trailer – now on the PS Store

Factotum 90 was released last year for the Wii U, Xbox One and PC but, strangely, was absent from PlayStation systems – until now, that is.

Factotum 90 – Stuck In Deep Space

The indie puzzler has finally landed on the PS4 and PS Vita with added Cross-Buy support. Here’s a trailer to celebrate that exciting fact, complete with a catchy song:

That song really is catchy… Anyway, Factotum 90 sees you stuck in deep space – wait, it gets better – and something has collided with your ship. The main power is offline and, basically, you’re trapped. Ready to die cold and alone. Not good.

Luckily there’s a terminal you can use. With the help of two robots and some smart moves, you’ll need to get the power back online by solving 30 tricky levels that only get harder as you progress – naturally.

Doing so will restore power and reactivate your life support. Sounds like a tempting challenge to me. Puzzle fans, you can find the game on the PS Store, on PS4 and PS Vita, right now.

D-Pad Studio’s Owlboy is coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One on the 13th February

D-Pad Studio, (no, not D-pad Joy), has confirmed that indie hit Owlboy will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and other consoles on the 13th February next year.

It’s another sign that the hybrid Switch is fast becoming the newest haven for indie developers and their games. Something we like to see in the industry.

The game will also be released on the PS4 and Xbox One which follows its release on PC last year. The Metroidvania platformer was met with nothing but critical acclaim from critics.

There are also plans for a retail version but nothing has been announced yet. We can’t wait to try it out early next year – what about you?

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Direct – All the key details for the Switch JRPG

The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Direct has been and gone. Basically, expect your social life to come to a horrible end.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Hours Of Content

Here’s everything we learnt from the flashy new showing of Xenoblade Chronicles 2:

  • The story looks to be dramatic, similar to the first game in the Xenoblade series
  • The new combat system is extensive with Persona-like elements
  • Free day one DLC will add dual audio – a Japanese voice-track
  • You can pre-purchase an expansion pass starting today – it costs a princely £26.99
  • Support items are coming in December 2017 – expansion pass
  • New quests are coming in January 2018 – expansion pass
  • There will be a new, rare blade in Spring 2018 – expansion pass
  • There’s going to be a challenge battle mode in the Summer of next year – expansion pass

  • You may pre-purchase the game on the eShop from today

Reggie Fils-Aimé on GameCube controllers, classic games on Switch, video services, more

No, we weren’t lucky enough to interview Nintendo of America’s CEO Reggie Fils-Aimé ourselves.

However, at the launch of Super Mario Odyssey, the folks over at Kotaku managed to ask him some rather topical questions – the responses were what you’d expect from Reggie.

Talking about Breath of the Wild’s second round of DLC:

“We will shortly be announcing the date for that content, so I would not lock and load on November 10th.”

On the GameCube adapter working on Switch:

“In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch. As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works.”

A tease on whether this support points to Smash Bros. in some way:

“Of course, there’s nothing to announce on this. I think it’s fair to say that that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.”

On classic games coming to Switch:

“When you think about the playstyle of the Switch it would be great if I could play all classic games on it. We’re gratified to have some of the best content ever created be unique to Nintendo platforms. We’re also gratified by our community that they want to play this content. What we’ve said is that there’s going to be some classic content that’s part of the Nintendo Online proposition. We’ve said we will unveil more about that proposition next year before it launches (The release of the NES and SNES classic) doesn’t preclude (classic games coming to Switch).

On video-on-demand services coming to Switch:

“(They) are going to come in due time. You’d have to ask the folks at Netflix. I have [Netflix CEO] Reed [Hasting]’s number.”

On My Nintendo offering Switch-specific rewards:

“There are unique elements coming for Nintendo Switch. We’ll be announcing those in due time. We do believe having a strong loyalty program for all of our products is important and certainly our fans appreciate it.”

Most of these answers are vague (this is Reggie), although they do seem to suggest Nintendo has unannounced goodies on the way. Let’s hope the wait isn’t too long – Netflix and a browser should really be on the Switch by now.

As for a new Virtual Console service, let’s hope it’s as definite as the one back on the Wii with added GameCube support.

EA Access may soon be available on new platforms

A feature exclusive to the Xbox One and PC platforms, EA Access may soon be available on the PS4 or Nintendo Switch.

EA Access, also known as Origins Access on PC, is a subscription-based service where subscribers pay for unlimited access to select EA titles. Xbox One and PC are currently the only platforms offering EA Access, but the subscription-based service may soon be available on other platforms.

Neither Nintendo nor Sony have made official announcements regarding plans for EA Access on the Switch or PS4, but Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO, has hinted at plans to bring EA Access to new platforms.

“Our subscription player base continues to grow. And you should expect us to continue driving this model to more platforms going forward.”

When EA first launched EA Access in 2014, they offered the service to both Sony and Microsoft. While Microsoft was receptive and made EA Access available on Xbox One, Sony turned down EA’s initial offer. Since then, neither Sony nor EA have announced any official plans for EA Access on PS4.

Since 2014 a wealth of popular titles have been made available through subscription to EA Access/Origins Access. Featuring the entire Mass Effect series, the Dead Space series, a number of popular EA sports titles, and different Battlefield titles, EA Access has already attracted many subscribers and is sure to draw many more.

Will those new subscribers be from PS4, Switch or users of both systems? We may find out sooner than later.

There’s going to be a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Direct next week

Need more to play? Already somehow finished Odyssey? How about a 100-hour plus RPG in Xenoblade Chronicles 2?

Nintendo is showcasing the new game in the Xeno series next week on Tuesday, 7th November – that’s 2 pm UK time. You’ll be able to watch it via their YouTube channel, or on their site.

If Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is anything like the first title back on the Wii (that ending twist…) then we could well be looking at another ‘Game of the Year’ contender for Nintendo. It would cap an already tremendous year for them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launches on the 1st December for the Switch. It’ll show you the power of the Monado… Oh, and there’s going to be a lot of British voices again, of course.

Zelda 2DS bundle announced, plus new edition of Breath of the Wild

Nintendo is looking to take charge of holiday publicity by announcing their exclusive Black Friday items before, seemingly, any other company. Let’s get you guys caught up:

  • First off, one of the soon to be GOTY candidates in “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is getting a new edition, called “Explorers Edition”.
  • This new edition will include the base game for the Nintendo Switch, along with a 100-page game guide, and a large two-sided map of the game world.
  • This edition of the game does not include any new game content, and it DOES NOT include the $20 season pass.
  • The Explorers Edition for BOTW will launch on Black Friday at a price point of $59.99.
  • Additionally on Black Friday Nintendo will be releasing, in limited qualities, a special edition The Legend of Zelda-themed 2DS bundle.
  • This limited edition bundle is called the “The Link Edition.” The 2DS included has a green and yellow paint job resembling Link’s iconic outfit.
  • “The Link Edition” bundle includes the 2DS console and the 3DS remake of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” – pre-installed. This limited edition bundle will launch on Black Friday for $79.99.

So, what do you guys think?

Switch hits half the Wii U’s lifetime sales in six months + Odyssey sells 2m copies in three days

Nintendo is back on form if the latest figures are anything to go by. For starters, the Switch has now impressively hit half the lifetime sales of the Wii U.

Nintendo Switch Reverses A Downward Trend

Let’s put that into perspective for a second: over 5 long years the Wii U only managed 13.56m units – the Switch has sold 7.63m units in less than a year.

As a result, Nintendo now expects to shift 14m consoles before the end of the financial year. Which, of course, beats the Wii U’s efforts in a single year. The company’s previous estimate for Switch sales was 10m.

It gets better for Nintendo though: Super Mario Odyssey sold 2m copies in just three days. That figure includes digital sales from the eShop.

It means that more than a third of Switch’s seven million owners have already picked up a copy of Odyssey, so the attach rate is high indeed. We thought Odyssey was pretty good ourselves.

Finally, yes there’s more, Nintendo sold 2m SNES mini consoles in a month. It moved 2m units worldwide, and 370k units were sold in half a week in Japan. The Japanese like Nintendo.

More SNES mini stock is on the way to try and stop the scalpers. Nintendo has also pledged that NES mini stock will return to the shops in the summer next year.

It’s extremely positive news for the company who not long ago was experiencing declining sales and profits with the unfortunate failure of the Wii U.

Nintendo mustn’t get complacent though (they haven’t yet), as there’s a long life ahead of the Switch that needs to be maintained with quality games. With both Mario and Zelda titles already out, Splatoon 2 on the shelves and Xenoblade 2 due this Christmas, it’s going to be a tough year to beat.

Let’s hope the new Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4 and hopefully, a Smash title, isn’t too far behind.

What’s that unannounced game that Retro Studios is working on?

Payday 2 developer shows Switch version – it’s still coming

Overkill Software has reassured Switch owners that the development of heister Payday 2 is going smoothly.

Payday 2 on Switch – A Long Wait?

It’s certainly been a while since we heard anything – the game was announced for Switch in a Nintendo Direct back in April – so it’s justified that doubts began to creep in.

Luckily the studio has updated us all via a new video with producer Almir Listo. Details are still rather scarce, but everything looks like it’s coming along nicely.
