Nintendo of America: Metroid Prime 4 and PokƩmon Switch will be released in 2018

According to Nintendo of America, we could well be playing the recently announced Metroid Prime 4 as early as next year on the Switch. That’s the plan anyway.

Takeaways:

  • Charlie Scibetta from Nintendo of America has said that Metroid Prime 4, and the new PokĆ©mon Switch game, will come out next year in an interview with VentureBeat
  • Scibetta says the Switch has great momentum, with strong first party and third-party support for the rest of the year
  • He says that the new Kirby and Yoshi games are very important for next year
  • States that Nintendo didn’t want to “front load” all their best games on day one – that’s why they’re coming out every month instead

You can find the full interview in the link below. It sounds too good to be true to us, but hopefully we’ll see either Metroid Prime or PokĆ©mon next year – just one of them at least! What do you think? Let us know in the comments below, if you please.

Nintendo Switch system update 3.0.0. adds Wii U and 3DS friends, extra power to your headphones, more!

Nintendo has decided to randomly roll out a new system update for the Switch today – you know, like they do. The system update 3.0.0. brings quite a few welcome features too, including the option of adding your old Wii U and 3DS friends.

As explained by the friendly ‘Amelia N’ on your Switch, here’s everything it adds:

  • 3DS and Wii U friends will now appear as ‘friend suggestions’
  • You’ll now be notified when a friend comes online (some folk have said this already happened for them anyway)
  • You can search for your controllers that are paired to the console, they vibrate to let you know!
  • New Splatoon 2 pictures to choose from for your user icon
  • You can now change the speaker volume from quick settings – very handy
  • The headphone volume limit has been increased – for those epic late night sessions
  • You can now like and dislike posts from Nintendo – feedback is fun kids
  • You can now follow specific game channels for updates on that game – new channels are being added right now

That’s your lot for now. While the Switch’s update adds nothing drastic, a lot of these new features will come in very useful. This writer is looking forward to connecting with old friends from the Wii U and 3DS in particular!

Have you got the update yet?

Reggie Fils-Aime: Nintendo believes in “fun”, not graphics

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president, and all-round stalwart for the company (as you’d expect), has said that Nintendo cares about fun, rather than having the best graphics.

In an interview with Bloomberg at E3, Reggie said in response to Sony and Microsoft’s consoles:

You know. It’s interesting. Our two competitors believe that it’s all about processing power and beautiful graphics, candidly, Nintendo believes in fun.

Our content brings smiles to people’s faces. We enable grandparents to play with their grandkids. Our content focuses on a fun, enjoyable experience, so for us, the technology really is a small part of what we deliver. We deliver smiles. And we deliver fun.

Reggie was also asked about what lessons Nintendo has learned from putting Mario on mobile devices, to which he replied:

What we’ve learned is how to bring our content to smart devices, how to do it effectively, how to monetize it, and that bodes well for our future efforts, including our next app, which will be in the Animal Crossing franchise.

It comes as no surprise that Nintendo is emphasising fun over graphics. The company has been repeating the same message for years now, and largely, to their success. As for mobile gaming, it’s going to be interesting to see what the Animal Crossing app turns out like. Although we’d much prefer a new game on the Switch… (fingers crossed.)

Super Mario Odyssey hits the Switch on October 27th

Mamma mia indeed! The bizarre, (yet probably brilliant) Super Mario Odyssey is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 27th – much earlier than anyone expected.

Screen_Shot_2017_01_12_at_11.37.08_PM

Nintendo announced the final release date for the game at their E3 Spotlight presentation today. We also saw Bowser and his plans to marry Peach – surely the ultimate insult to Mario – along with theĀ Italian plumber exploring many new beautiful worlds in search for the all-powerful ‘Moons’.

You can catch the delightful trailer below:

E3 2017: Metroid: Samus Returns announced for the 3DS

Yes, that’s right. Nintendo is doubling up on Metroid this year at E3. First, with the announcement of Metroid Prime 4, and now ‘Metroid: Samus Returns’ for the 3DS. The game is being developed Mercury Stream, who just last year denied the rumor that they were working on a Metroid game.

This iteration of the long time fan favorite series is a reworked version of the classic “Metroid 2: Return of Samus.” No, it’s not just a simple port, it’s a re-imagining of the classic game. The new features will include upgraded visuals, range of motion and bonus abilities.

Metroid: Samus Returns will launch on September 15th for the 3DS family of consoles. A special edition was also announced that comes with the game and a CD soundtrack.

What do you guys think of this 2D Metroid? Are you going to be picking it up? Or are you just going to wait for Metroid Prime 4?

E3 2017: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions announced for 3DS

Update: Coming October 6th

A remake of the first ever Mario & Luigi is coming to the 3DS. Nintendo decided to randomly announce the news at their Treehouse event, after the main E3 Spotlight conference. (Didn’t see that coming!).

The remake of the GBA game, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, will feature enhanced graphics and a new mode.

E3 2017: Metroid Prime 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch, no this isn’t a rumour

Surprise! Metroid Prime 4 has been confirmed to be in development for the Switch at Nintendo’s E3 ‘Spotlight’ presentation.

We don’t know any other details at this time, but we’ll be lucky to see this one released before late next year, (at the very least). This writer believes this will be the first in a new trilogy as well. It’s definitely a sign that Nintendo has been listening to its fans who have been clamouring for a new game in the series for many years.

You can catch the first look below. Are you happy with Nintendo’s best kept secret?

E3 2017: Beyond Good & Evil 2 announced (officially!)

It’s been a long wait for fans of the original game (15 years), but Beyond Good & Evil 2 is now officially real.

Michel Ancel himself came out on the Ubisoft E3 stage to announce the prequel, literally crying with passion for the project.

We don’t know what platforms it’s coming to, and we don’t know the release date either. But you can rest easy knowing that it’s real.

Here’s the game’s synopsis:

System 3 has become the center of interstellar trade and colonization in the Milky Way of the 24th century, thanks to the creation of Hybrid slaves. While private enterprises fight over resources and power, the first colonists weave together the rich and diverse spiritual and cultural heritages of Old Earth to give meaning to their existence. In this new era of piracy, we will rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of colorful characters to fight for freedom and the right to determine our own fate among the stars!

Fans can also share in the development of the game and can register online for the ‘Space Monkey Program‘ here. The world premiere trailer is below:

E3 2017: Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, a rumour no longer, say hello to Mario XCOM

Yup. It’s true. A crossover between Super Mario and Rabbids is going to be a thing on August 29th. (It’s XCOM + Mario + Rabbids).

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a turn-based tactical (XCOM!) adventure game where you wander around in a charming-looking world with an exploration mode as well as a battle mode. I think the game looked pretty cool, to be honest.

We know this much about the combat system: we enter battlefield zones with a variety of characters. These characters will have different abilities, creating a mix-and-match system – as we progress, we get more weapons, and more heroes, bringing more tactics to the field. This way, the player will have to plan each movement sequence before playing them out. This is a game that can go both ways, I feel. It could turn out to be really weird, or it could turn out to be totally awesome. I’m excited to figure out the answer to that!

Consider me intrigued… Watch the funny and adorable trailer here:
