Joy Con 1 Vs Joy Con 2

Do Nintendo Switch 1 Controllers Work With Switch 2?

We’ve seen this question asked all over the internet, and since Nintendo thinks silence is a viable answer to mass confusion (work it out for yourself, guv), we thought we’d chime in.

The simple answer is yes, they do. That includes all original Joy-Cons, the Pro Controller 1 itself, as well as the GameCube adapter.

Switch 1 controllers can be used wirelessly and are also compatible with Switch 2 exclusive games, but they can’t be used if a game requires features unique to the Joy-Con 2 (such as mouse controls).

In short, if you don’t want to buy additional controllers, your old ones will work fine in almost all scenarios. The Switch 2 comes with two Joy-Con 2 controllers included.

Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata

Why Do Nintendo Games Rarely Drop in Price? Quote of the Week, Satoru Iwata #1

In the run-up to Nintendo’s new console, the Nintendo Switch 2, we’ll be posting a series of quotes from the late and great Satoru Iwata. Taken from Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom, the quotes offer a fascinating insight into his mind and give you a sense of some of his lateral thinking that shaped Nintendo.

The book itself is a great read, revealing a passionate and widely respected CEO who many noted fizzed with joy. We can also use it as a marker to see how the company might, or might not, have changed since then.

This week’s quote on Nintendo game pricing:

‘After a piece of hardware is released, the price is gradually reduced for five years until demand has run its course. But since the demand cycle never fails, why bother reducing the price this way? My personal take on the situation is that if you lower the price over time, the manufacturer is conditioning the customer to wait for a better deal, something I’ve always thought to be a strange approach.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that I’m against lowering prices entirely, but I’ve always wanted to avoid a situation where the first people to step up and support us feel punished for paying top dollar, grumbling, “I guess this is the price I pay for being first in line.”‘

There is validity to this thinking (see Ubisoft and its pricing strategy of dropping games mere months after release). And as we saw with the Switch 2 pre-order process, Nintendo handled it in a way that rewarded the most dedicated customers first, which was widely applauded in Japanese circles (not so much elsewhere).

Stay tuned.

Hideki Kamiya Says Nintendo Switch 2 Leakers Are ‘The Worst Of Scum’

Hideki Kamiya, the man behind some of the greatest games of all time, including serving as the director of the original Resident Evil 2 (1998), has said Nintendo Switch 2 leakers are the ‘the worst of scum’.

Posting on X and keeping true to his reputation for ‘saying it how it is’, Kamiya didn’t hold back:

I hope that all of the people who leaked Switch 2 information/those who helped leak it will be cursed for the rest of their lives to always have poop on the soles of their shoes when they get home…

…Now that I’ve enjoyed the surprise announcement of Okami with all the users, I truly believe that… all those damn leakers should be cursed…

The shitty leaker only acts for his own pleasure and self-satisfaction, not only is he not contributing to anyone’s benefit, he is incurring all sorts of opportunity losses, and has done nothing to be proud of in front of others. He is the worst of scum, so he should be covered in shit from head to toe and thrown out of the atmosphere… and then stop thinking and wander forever…

These damn leakers are in a position of responsibility where they have access to information that only a very select few know, yet what they do is nothing more than an expression of a filthy desire for approval that lacks a shred of rationality; they are shameful people, so it is not the manufacturers whose secrets have been exposed who should be blamed, but these damn people, and they need to be crushed as soon as possible…

Kamiya’s joke-at-first-turned-rage is more understandable when considering the huge cultural differences between countries and their subsequent values.

Both a critic and supporter of Nintendo, Kamiya does raise a genuine point about leaking culture in general (and the internet’s notable lack of restraint), although it’s also fair to say that Nintendo waited a long, long time to announce the Switch 2, clearly due to fears of having another Wii U-sized failure.

In a nutshell: good luck, leakers! You have shamed Japan and will be crushed.

Is Nintendo Switch 2 The Final Name?

Multiple rumours and leaks suggest the Switch’s successor is called the Nintendo Switch 2. If true, it’s a safe final name, although not a surprise considering the difficulties the Wii U endured. It’s also unmistakably clear and easy to market.

The Nintendo DS’ successor became known as the 3DS. What we got there was a safe iteration, a more powerful DS with optional stereoscopic 3D. All things point to the Switch successor following suit.

What do you think? Is it a smart strategy or a little too safe for comfort? Let us know in the comments below!

One thing’s for sure: 2025 is going to be hot for Nintenfolks.

Mario Tennis Aces – All Special Shots (Nintendo Switch)

There are now 30 characters in Mario Tennis Aces on Nintendo Switch, each with their own signature Special Shot.

16 characters were available at launch, and 14 characters were made available later on in the game. Special Shots are activated with the L button once your gauge is fully charged. I particularly enjoyed discovering these new ultra moves.

Here’s every single one of them:

So much power!

Cadence of Hyrule on Switch

Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt Of The NecroDancer Is Out Now

The Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda, yes, that’s the full title, is out now.

Developed by Brace Yourself Games, the indie roguelike combines the rhythm-based movement and fighting mechanics with gameplay elements of earlier titles in the Zelda series.

Members of the Sonic Mania art team developed the pixel art style:

The first Crypt of the NecroDancer was both brutal and addictive. The sequel will be aiming to provide that again with the boosted appeal of Zelda.

It’s available from the eShop for £22.49.

Panzer Dragoon on Nintendo Switch

Panzer Dragoon Gets A Second Gameplay Trailer

A remake of Panzer Dragoon was one of the more left-field announcements at Nintendo’s E3 Direct.

Originally released in 1995 on the Sega Saturn, the title received critical acclaim, with one critic at the time saying:

‘It orchestrates incredible story animation with brilliant, 3D flight graphics to create what is, basically, the ultimate evolution of Space Harrier.’

Now we have a second gameplay trailer to look at:

The premise: on a far, lone planet, you encounter two dragons awakened from the ancient times. Armed with a deadly gun from the past, and the guidance of your armored blue dragon, you must fulfill your destiny and keep the Prototype Dragon from reaching the Tower or die trying.

Developed by MegaPixel Studio, arcade shooter Panzer Dragoon will be released on Switch this winter.

Random: Reggie Gets Called Out By Samuel L. Jackson For Missing E3

Weird and wacky news at Nintendo’s E3? How about Samuel L. Jackson calling out the retired Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime?

Twitch streamer Myth and Samuel L. Jackson did just that and called out Reggie for not being available to ‘kick ass and take names’ at E3 this year.

Game journalist Geoff Keighley was reponsible for setting it up. You can see it here:

Reggie said in response: ‘WHAT! This cat is bad mother… shut my mouth! Thanks for the call out and I’ll be watching, .’

Fils-Aime left Nintendo in April this year and was replaced by Doug Bowser — something Nintendo themselves had fun with during their E3 Direct.

Don’t mess with Nick Fury.
