Co-op brawler, Bloody Zombies, launches September 12th on PS4, Xbox One and PC

Good news everyone! Co-op brawler Bloody Zombies will launch September 12th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also launch on VR headsets, including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PS VR.

But what’s the game about readers? Well, surprisingly… lots of zombies…

It’s a one-to-four player co-op brawler designed to be played with any combination of TV and VR players, online or on the couch.

Set in a London wasteland, bloody zombies have taken over the city and four, quite rough-and-tough looking cockney misfits, must work together to beat back the dead.

The enhanced VR viewpoint means that VR gamers can also find in-game secrets, provide tactical support, and conquer obstacles using a unique diorama view.

You can check out the “mindless” action (because they’re zombies…) below:

Life Is Strange: Before The Storm’s new Chloe and David gameplay shows a turbulent relationship indeed

Welcome back to Arcadia Bay! Did you miss it? I sure did. But before we go any further:

(Spoiler warning)

Ok… So a new gameplay trailer released today shows a 16-year-old Chloe Price, who is still struggling with her father’s death, trying to deal with the unwelcome entry of a new father figure, David, into her life.

Following events in the Mill the night before, this scene – which is cut together from a much longer sequence in the game – unveils Chloe’s house for the first time in Before the Storm and provides gamers with a glimpse at Chloe and David’s turbulent relationship.

The first of the three episodes of Life is Strange: Before the Storm is entitled ‘Awake’ and will release on the 31st August for Xbox One, PS4 and Steam.

The fact we’re even getting more LIS is enough to blow my mind.

Shadow Tactics – Blades of the Shogun comes to PS4 and Xbox One

Originally released for PC, Shadow Tactics – Blades of the Shogun has finally made its way over to PS4 and Xbox One.

In the game, you’ll get to hone your tactical skills as you make your way through a challenging campaign with more than 25 hours of gameplay.

Set in the Edo period of ancient Japan, Shadow Tactics is quite the hardcore tactical stealth game. Gamers control five unique characters, using their versatile skills to complete missions without getting caught.

Whether you’re luring the shogun’s guards with a strategically placed bottle of sake or unleashing a whirlwind of swords to take out an entire group, there is no one way to complete each mission. There’s a high level of replayability to be found.

You can grab the game for £39.99 on PS4 and Xbox One… right now if you want! But before you do, check out the trailer below.

Razer Launches The Blackwidow Tournament Edition Chroma V2 Keyboard – it’s beasty

Razer has announced the launch of the Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma V2, the gaming keyboard designed for eSports players. Colourful!

The new keyboard boasts Razer’s new Instant Trigger Technology (ITT), enabling fast response times within a gaming keyboard.

The Razer BlackWidow TE Chroma V2 also offers users the choice between Razer’s mechanical Green, Orange or Yellow switches. Designed without a tactile bump or click, the Razer Yellow switches are silent but, as it happens, are quite fast too!

Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s Co-founder and CEO said:

“Gamers rely on their gear to react and respond as fast as they do no matter the situation, from landing a headshot to combining ultimate abilities as a team.

Timing is critical. The BlackWidow TE Chroma V2’s Instant Trigger Technology works hand-in-hand with our Yellow switches, setting the bar for the industry’s fastest response rating on a keyboard with the ultimate combination of hardware and software.”

In-game Razer Chroma lighting profiles are also integrated into games such as Overwatch and Call of Duty so you can stay ahead of the competition with style, if that’s your thing.

The Razer BlackWidow Chroma TE V2 is available now from Razer’s site for £134.99 / $139.99 / €149.99.

The future of retro gaming is Candy Crush, Angry Birds, and Snake, according to new research

New research from games room specialist Liberty Games has revealed that Candy Crush, Angry Birds and Snake might replace Pac-Man, Mario, and Lemmings as the retro games of the future.

Takeaways:

  • Liberty Games polled 1,500 Britons to find out the future of retro gaming.
  • Candy Crush, Angry Birds, and Snake came out on top.
  • Nearly three-quarters of Britons now want their own arcade at home rather than going down to their local one – where exactly are the arcades anyway?

Here were the results of the poll:

  • Candy Crush – 51%
  • Angry Birds – 39%
  • Snake – 20%
  • Pokémon GO – 17%
  • Other – 18% (Including Clash Of Clans and Tetris)

LibertyGames-Content-IG-FutureRetroGaming-FinalFullGraphic-26.06.2017.jpg

Stuart Kerr, Technical Director at Liberty Games, said:

“Gaming has changed significantly since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Today, we have smartphones which have become integral to our lives. As well as keeping in touch with people, reading the news and sending emails, we play games on them, usually through an app.

“And while in yesteryear we’d head to our local arcade, today home games are popular, too – who hasn’t dreamed of having their own games room complete with pool tables and arcade machines?”

The data indicates that the most popular retro games of the future are set to be app-based as people shift towards mobile gaming. However, it’s also clear from these last few years that the dedicated games console business, as well as PC gaming, is still very much a thing. The demand for Crash Bandicoot in the UK, for example, is real.

What do you think the future of retro gaming will look like?

Motion controls: Separating the ‘Virtual’ from the ‘Reality’

Since the move from 2D to 3D dimensions, games have become increasingly more successful at replicating reality, and not just from a visual perspective. In the ’90s, games like Samba de Amigo and the Dance Dance series have required more from the gamer than simply pressing buttons.

Nintendo evolved this idea to a philosophy with the release of the Wii in 2006. The thinking is by mapping your physical actions in a game, you’re removing the barriers between virtual reality, and real life.

The question has to be asked, however, what implications has this had, and what will it mean for the future of gaming?

Well, interestingly not as much as first thought. Although Nintendo very much accelerated a trend that was adopted by Microsoft and Sony, they backtracked somewhat with the Wii U, a console that largely abandoned motion control gaming. The Switch continues that trend.

Buttons are here to stay.

It’s hard to establish the importance of being able to control a video game by swinging one’s arms around. Nobody can deny the Wii’s global popularity and its intimidating record sales. But on the other hand, it encouraged a lot of cash cow products to the market.

Playing Zumba Fitness, I knew this wasn’t going to be something I could relax with after a hard day. Having been raised on Sonic and Mario, I’m a gamer that firmly enjoys the minimal movement required from a normal control pad.

I also chase deep and unique gaming experiences. So in some respect, I really enjoyed the Wii for what it was: something different. The problem is (as many have found out) there were too many Zumba Fitness-esq games and not enough actual ‘game’ games. If I buy a video games console, it’s to play video games, not to play glorified fitness videos.

And herein lies the problem. While motion controls in gaming did blur the boundaries between reality and virtual reality, it was not necessarily best suited to the games industry. It is a practical application to an impractical medium.

A video game is about escapism, not replication and this why I foresee that joystick junkies and the button bandits are here to stay.

New Middle-earth: Shadow of War trailer features Kumail Nanjiani as The Agonizer

A new trailer for Middle-earth: Shadow of War featuring Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Silicon Valley), has been released.

Nanjiani portrays The Agonizer, a deadly yet over-thoughtful Orc, that players may encounter through the Nemesis System in the upcoming open-world action game.

The trailer was originally revealed at Comic-Con San Diego and provides a first look at Nanjiani’s Orc character delivering a variety of humorous one-liners that players may come across throughout their game experience.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be available for Xbox One X, Xbox One, PC (Windows Store and Steam), PS4 and PS4 Pro on the 10th October.

Vostok Inc. is out today for PS4 and PC – Earn that Moolah!

Vostok Inc. the dual-stick shooter developed by Nosebleed Interactive and published by BadLand Games Publishing, launches today for PS4 and PC on Steam.

You’re going to love this: in Vostok Inc. you play as a greedy, space-capitalist with the ultimate goal to get filthy, stinking, rich. Of course, it wouldn’t be much of a shooter if there weren’t enemies to blast on the way to untold riches.

You’ll encounter a variety of different alien races (each with their own agenda) with assets ready for “liquidation.” Each dead enemy, defeated boss, and vanquished environmental hazard drops loot, making every encounter, of course, a ripe business opportunity. Once you’ve collected enough cash it’s time to land on planets and start mining, terraforming and colonising.

Once the “Moolah” (yes) starts flowing, you’ll be able to upgrade your ship weapons and augmentations. Increase profits even further by finding and recruiting managers, consultants, and executives scattered throughout the galaxy.

You can watch the launch trailer here:

Vostok Inc. is €14.99/ $14.99/ £10.99 on PS4 and PC, with the Xbox One and PS Vita versions following up shortly afterwards.
