Hideki Kamiya wants either a Viewtiful Joe remake, a new Okami, or a Devil May Cry + Bayonetta game

The often outspoken Hideki Kamiya from PlatinumGames, yes that’s with no space, has said he wants a remake of Viewtiful Joe or Devil May Cry, a new Okami, or a game where Dante from Devil May Cry and Bayonetta team-up.

Is A Viewtiful Joe Remake Too Good To Be True?

There’s one problem with all of this – he needs Capcom’s permission to do so. Speaking with Dengeki PlayStation, Kamiya had this to say:

I want to work on a Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe remake, or a true sequel for Okami. A cooperation with Dante (from Devil May Cry) and Bayonetta might also be fun. Dear Capcom, if it’s okay with someone like me, I will help anytime. Best regards. Everyone, bow down your heads together with me!

A new Viewtiful Joe would be welcome, it’s only been 12 years since the last one, Double Trouble!, hit the humble Nintendo DS after all.

That being said, a team-up with Dante and Bayonetta could be just crazy enough to work. More Okami would be great too. In fact, why not all of them? I wonder if Capcom is listening…

The hat strikes back – Cappy can kill Mario in Odyssey

If the Goomba fears Mario, does Mario have to fear his hat?

An interesting glitch found by Twitter user DefinitivNichtSacha allows Cappy to take down our favourite video game plumber in Odyssey:

Simply capture a Piranha Plant after you’ve fed it a rock in two-player mode. After that order Cappy to attack it and it will kill the plant and Mario too! You have to reload to get the good sir back.

It is unlikely Nintendo would willingly kill off its title character, though they haven’t announced a patch as of yet or really even spoken about the issue.

Maybe it’s finally Luigi’s turn to take over?… Or they are currently working on a fix – seems more likely somehow.

StarCraft 2 pokes fun at Battlefront 2

Amid continued fights to control the fires before Battlefront 2’s launch today, Activision Blizzard’s StarCraft 2 Twitter account decided to turn up the heat by giving EA a few jabs.

The first post: “Number of hours it takes to earn the full StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Campaign: 0”.

A casual observer would think that this is just marketing for StarCraft 2’s now F2P model.  However, it is a thinly veiled rivalry dating back to 2009 when EA was trying to unseat Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with Battlefield 3 – not easy when one considers how massively popular COD was during that time period.

It deepens further when Activision called out EA for “suffocating” studios in 2010, to which EA replied “(Bobby) Kotick’s (Activision’s CEO) relationship with studio talent is well-documented in litigation.”

The worst of it came in 2010 after Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella were let go, seemingly for no reason, by Activision and their founding of Respawn Entertainment to make Titanfall for EA (EA now owns Respawn). Legal battles went on for years, the biggest of which saw Activision demand 400m from EA for the supposed poaching of West and Zampella.

I’m not saying that the person behind the Twitter post had any of this in mind when they posted… Surely it was just to show off their free-to-play model, the timing was just a coincidence.

Reggie Fils-Aime on that NES Golf Satoru Iwata tribute

Nintendo has finally acknowledged that admirable tribute to their former CEO and president, the late Satoru Iwata.

In case you weren’t already aware, an emulation of 1984’s NES Golf, along with added motion control support, was surprisingly found to be hidden on every single Nintendo Switch.

If the date on a Switch is set to July 11th, the day in which Iwata passed away, and both Joy-Cons are then used in the “Directly” gesture that Iwata was famous for, NES Golf loads on the system.

Most speculated this was a tribute to Iwata, the game’s chief programmer, who died in 2015 at the age of 55. Fast-forward to now, and for the first time since it was found, Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime has recognised the discovery.

Speaking to Kotaku, Reggie said:

So, two comments on this. It was identified by folks playing around in the firmware. We’ve got nothing officially to announce for that content or what the plans are for that content. So that’s that.

A typical Reggie-response so far then: vague teasing about potential future content. However, he continued:

Certainly anything that pays respect to my friend Mr. Iwata is something that is near and dear to me personally, but in terms of that execution and what it was meant to do or what the plans are, we’ve got nothing to announce.

So while it does indeed seem to be a tribute to Iwata, there appears to be more going on there.

We’d take a guess that a Virtual Console service is being tinkered around with on the Switch and the classic games available for it will have added motion control support – possibly being activated by the “Directly” arm gesture used by Iwata. Or, of course, we could be completely wrong.

Whatever is being worked on, Nintendo is keeping tight-lipped about it, but we’re sure to find out the full details next year.

Xbox One X finds success in UK

The Xbox One X has enjoyed success in the UK, selling 80,000 in its first week.

This nearly matches the total sales of the Nintendo Switch during its first week in March. The X also outpaced PS4 Pro numbers from its launch week when it only hit 50,000. It took the PS4 Pro four weeks to reach the 80,000 mark in the UK.

However, both Sony and Nintendo were impacted by supply shortages, which dropped the possible number of sales.

Nevertheless, Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg was pleased and confirmed the number via Twitter:

Capture

This is no doubt a win for Microsoft to start off the Holiday season. It’s a much better result than Japan too.

Worms W.M.D blasts its way onto Switch November 23rd

Team 17 has announced that November 23rd is the release date for Worms W.M.D on the Switch. We told you it would be before Christmas.

Worms W.M.D – Portable Wormy Mayhem

One of the best Worms games in years, Worms W.M.D on the Switch features the following:

  • All the campaign missions from the Xbox One and PS4 versions
  • All the wacky customisations and extra updates
  • That’s including the Liberation campaign and Forts Mode

As you’d hope with the portability side of things, there’s single Joy-Con support, local wireless multiplayer, hot seat, local and online multiplayer.

In terms of new content, you’ll find a Space theme, Mushroom and Tree House forts, three added outfits and three new gravestones.

And it’s coming out at £19.99 ($29.99 USD), meaning it’s a fiver more for that bonus content and portability.

Capcom is developing Ace Attorney for Nintendo Switch + other games

Capcom is finally supporting the Switch – maybe those recent sales have helped things along.

Ace Attorney Switch – It’s Happening

It’s taken quite some time, yes, but in an interview with Jiji, Capcom’s COO has said that the company is indeed developing Switch games aimed at release after April next year.

Curiously, and much to the delight of courtroom and crime fans all over, one of these titles will be an Ace Attorney game:

We don’t know whether this will be a new instalment in the lawyering series, but we can certainly hope so. Ace Attorney 7 would be great, but something a little less exciting like HD remasters of the first games could be the actual reality here. The latter is, of course, a safe way of doing things, and while this writer wouldn’t say no, a brand new Ace Attorney game would be a strong addition to the Switch’s growing library.

As for those other titles, we’d imagine a Resident Evil of some sort is potentially on the cards. Could Resident Evil 7: Biohazard even run on the Switch? If Doom can, we suppose it’s possible. Although a Resident Evil: Revelations 3 would be more welcome at this point. We also wouldn’t rule out Street Fighter V and the Mega Man games either.

Nevertheless, it’s exciting news and we can expect to hear more next year.

Wuppo

Wuppo now available on PS4 and Xbox One

Adventure platformer indie game Wuppo has finally been released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live stores.

Wuppo – Yoshi’s Island Platforming

Originally released on PC via Steam, the title quickly gained a cult following that couldn’t get enough of its quirky and cute, Yoshi’s Island-esque platforming. It currently has a 97% positive rating on Steam.

Here’s the PS4 and Xbox One launch trailer for you:

The game was a two-man passion project, with hand-drawn visuals, a full soundtrack and an expansive world to explore. If you’re looking for hidden gems, then look no further than this.

Check it out on both PS4 and Xbox One, if you haven’t already…

D-Pad Studio’s Owlboy is coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One on the 13th February

D-Pad Studio, (no, not D-pad Joy), has confirmed that indie hit Owlboy will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and other consoles on the 13th February next year.

It’s another sign that the hybrid Switch is fast becoming the newest haven for indie developers and their games. Something we like to see in the industry.

The game will also be released on the PS4 and Xbox One which follows its release on PC last year. The Metroidvania platformer was met with nothing but critical acclaim from critics.

There are also plans for a retail version but nothing has been announced yet. We can’t wait to try it out early next year – what about you?
