MediEvil for PS4

MediEvil for PS4 announced at PSX – yes!

MediEvil for PS4…?

Well, that was unexpected – a MediEvil title, yes really, has been officially announced at PSX, much to the delight of fans all around the world – including this writer.

MediEvil For PS4 – Sir Daniel Returns

Here’s the big tease from Sony, (first revealed on the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden‘s t-shirt…), that happened at the end of the PlayStation Experience 2017 presentation:

Heading to the PS4, the game appears to be a 4K remaster of the first in the beloved series. Perhaps this is Sony testing the waters for a new game much like the remaster of Crash Bandicoot – still, we’d take this any day of the week. More details are expected shortly. By that, we mean next to nothing is actually known at this point.

MediEvil for PS4

Sir Daniel Fortesque is back – it’s been far too long! Let’s just hope this means he has a future on the platform…

Bandai Namco announces Soulcalibur 6

Bandai Namco has announced Soulcalibur 6, the latest in the fighting series not seen since Soulcalibur: Unbreakable Soul on iOS devices.

Returning characters in the game include Mitsurugi Heishiro and Sophitia Alexandra, and the new story is focused on the search for the Soul Swords:

There’s also a Reversal Edge system, which lets you land a counter-attack while in guard mode. It’s due out next year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Game Awards 2017 sure packed in some announcements. Now on to PSX, the final gaming event of the year – Bloodborne 2 anyone? It’s probably a good time to catch up…

Breath of the Wild Champion’s Ballad expansion is out now

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild expansion Champion’s Ballad is out now. Surprise.

The Game Awards 2017 revealed the big news showing Link on a new bike called the Master Cycle Zero. We assume it helps you to get around a bit faster than your horse:

The Champion’s Ballad will see Link interact with the heroes before the events of the main game – no spoilers here. There are also new outfits and shrines as part of the DLC.

Death Stranding gets a new trailer

The Game Awards 2017 showcased a bizarre trailer for Death Stranding – a game from the renowned Hideo Kojima who was in fact there himself.

In the new trailer, that’s 8 minutes long, we get to see and hear Norman – Daryl – Reedus from The Walking Dead again, and there’s a baby inside his mouth that appears to be controlling things:

We’ve no idea what it’s all about, or what you actually do in the game, but that’s normal when it comes to Kojima. Or so I’ve heard…

PS4 sandbox exclusive Dreams is coming 2018

The PS4 exclusive Dreams finally has a new trailer and a key piece of information: it’s out next year. Although we don’t know when exactly.

Here’s the new trailer from The Game Awards 2017 that confirmed the upcoming date:

Dreams is being developed by the crazily creative LittleBigPlanet studio, Media Molecule. It was first announced way back at E3 2015 – it’s been a bit quiet since.

Could we see more at the PlayStation Experience show tonight? We reckon so.

Sea of Thieves out March next year

Sea of Thieves and its next trailer has arrived – at The Game Awards 2017 no less. It came with a 20th March 2018 release date too.

Here’s the latest trailer:

The game is coming exclusively to the Xbox One, although you can also pick it up on PC. It’s being developed by Rare, Nintendo’s former best friend – a UK developer with a lot of talent.

It feels like we’re having a mini E3…

Meet In The Valley of the Gods – from the Firewatch developers

Firewatch developer Campo Santo has revealed its next game called In The Valley of the Gods. It’s coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. The title’s first trailer was shown at The Game Awards 2017.

You can check it out below:

It’s looking quite far away though, with a 2019 release date being all we really know about the game so far. That being said, this is coming from the brainchild of indie great Firewatch, so we have high hopes for it. If you haven’t played that yet, you know what to do.

Bayonetta 3 announced as a Switch exclusive

Bayonetta 3 has been announced at The Game Awards 2017 and is in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. There’s no release date at this stage but it’s great to see the series live on.

Here’s our first little tease:

A pack of the first two games in the series is also coming to the Switch next year on February 16th – something we thought might happen. We expect more info shortly.

PS4 Sales

PS4 sales hit 70.6 million worldwide

Do you remember the days when certain individuals said the console market was dead? Mobile was going to destroy it and that was that. I do too. It seems they got it wrong, as the PS4 has just hit an impressive 70.6 million sales worldwide.

PS4 Brings In The Money

Here’s a rundown of Sony’s latest sales, including PS4 games and PS VR:

  • The PS4 has sold more than 70.6m units worldwide
  • More than 617.8 million copies of PS4 games have been sold at retail stores globally and through digital downloads on the PS Store
  • PS VR has sold more than 2m units
  • 150 titles have been released for PS VR so far, achieving more than 12.2 million copies sold at retail stores globally and through digital downloads on the PS Store

Sony’s Andrew House, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment is, of course, pretty happy about the news:

“We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4 and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction.

I cannot thank our fans and partners enough. Their support, since the launch of [sic] very first PlayStation in 1994, has helped to make PlayStation one of the biggest console gaming networks in the world. We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play.”

There’s plenty more to come to the PS4 as well, with God of War, Detroit: Become Human, Spider-Man, Shadow of the Colossus, Dreams, Days Gone and a small game called The Last of Us Part II all on their way.

As for PS VR, there are 130 games in development including The Inpatient and Bravo Team. Consoles are doomed? Nonsense.

Roguelike shooter, PolyGod, coming to Xbox One, Switch, and PC early next year

Indie developer Krafted Games has announced that their rogue-like, first-person shooter PolyGod will launch worldwide for Xbox One, PC via Steam and Switch in early 2018.

PolyGod features, according to the developer, a brutal difficulty curve, with a focus on tough boss fights and arena-shooter style online multiplayer and co-op. Here’s a trailer for you:

Maps are randomly generated and seeded in the game, meaning there should be a lot of replayability, while the “Blessings” based weapon customisation system helps to keep things fresh. Classic FPS controls are also in tow.

Capcom makes Mega Man 11 real + Legacy collections

Mega Man turns 30 on December 17th and instead of a normal celebration, we’re getting a gift…

Mega Man Returns – 2018

Capcom has announced Mega Man 11 for late 2018. The game will be the first new title to the series since Mega Man 10 in 2010. It comes along with a new “2.5D hand-drawn” art style instead of the traditional, retro 8-bit look.

Official launch trailer

Even more goodies are coming in the forms of Mega Man Legacy Collect 1 and 2 for the Switch and all eight of the Mega Man X series coming to all consoles. The Legacy collections came out for the PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year and it is not yet confirmed if the X Series will come as a compilation or as individual releases.

Mega Man is back.

Bungie abandons Destiny 2 livestream amid criticism

Last week Bungie had planned a livestream to discuss future plans for Destiny 2. However, after a rough week of anger from fans at long-term problems and the XP issue that sprouted up over Thanksgiving (credit to Eurogamer.net for the article), the stream was tossed for a blog post.

In general, the post says that they want to be more transparent as a company so fans know more of what is going on, speaking on the importance of community and how they want the game to fit into your life. Along with that, they give a list of updates including Masterwork Weapons, shop changes (removing the token system), faction weapons and armour, some PVP changes and more (I implore you to read the blog post for full details).

In my opinion, Destiny 2 was not a great game and the changes they are bringing, to me, will not change that. Bungie can be as open as they want but it will not change a lack of progression system, 4v4 PvP in an age where 6v6 has become standard, a poor story with forgettable characters and locations. The changes they speak of will not make me load the title back up.

However, it is a step in the right direction. Removing the token and making gear purchasable at vendors is a move that has been asked for almost since the game launched. Masterwork Weapons are a good start to true endgame gear. Other quality of life changes, such as Xur item changes, are welcome. But it makes players wonder: why weren’t these things in at launch? Why wait this long to make these changes after many have written the game off?

Hopefully, this will help the community and things start moving in the right direction for Destiny 2. At least the developers appear to be listening now.
