Welcome to D-pad Joy

Get a life – a virtual one you mean?

We always thought it was funny when people used that saying. Especially as we’re always getting lives with our D-pads. There’s no way you can keep going without making sure you’ve got a good stock of them right?

Well, that’s what D-pad Joy is all about. We play and talk video games, but more importantly, we’re proud to play and talk video games. It’s a wonderful pastime that we, and many others, hold dear in our joyful hearts.

And yet, video games are still regularly attacked for ‘promoting violence’, ‘creating anti-social individuals’ and causing ‘mayhem in our society’. None of this is true, of course. But here we are.

We’ll be happy when the above claims are dropped against video games. We’ll also be delighted when video games are truly, and rightfully, recognised as the works of art that they are.

Until that day dear reader, keep gaming, and keep being awesome.

Persona 5 Sits at the Top of the UK Charts

Persona 5 can be found happily sitting at the top of the UK charts this past week. The excellent JRPG beat Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Lego Worlds to seize the crown.

It’s the first time any game in the series has managed to accomplish such a feat too. Atlus will no doubt pleased with the results.

The rest of the top 10 is as follows:

  1. Persona 5
  2. Ghost Recon: Wildlands
  3. Lego Worlds
  4. GTA5
  5. Mass Effect Andromeda
  6. FIFA 17
  7. Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  8. Lego City Undercover
  9. COD: Infinite Warfare
  10. Overwatch

Did you manage to get a copy of the game in the UK before the stock issues hit?

Are you excited?

Aven Colony: New Survival Gameplay Trailer

Team17 and Mothership Entertainment have today released a new gameplay trailer for sci-fi city-building and management sim, Aven Colony, which is heading to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC this year.

Full press release here folks:

“A gripping, rich simulation of an alien colony, Aven Colony allows you to build, customise, and maintain your settlement within Aven Prime, a hostile extra-terrestrial world full of deserts, tundras, badlands, and wetlands light-years from earth.

Dive in to an extensive dedicated single-player campaign where you’ll need to brave Aven Prime’s harsh environments with freezing winters, lightning storms, ice storms, and toxic gas clouds. Prepare for attacks from the locals, including giant acid-spewing sandworms, “Creep spores” that infect your buildings, and “plague spores” that infiltrate your colony and infect your colonists with the plague.

You must protect your colony from everything the planet has to throw at them, and shape the future of the survival of the human race. There’s even an immersive sandbox mode which features a variety of unique maps to choose from and a full suite of options to customize the game experience.

Will your plucky settlers survive and prosper on this exotic alien world, and uncover its many secrets? Find out later this year when Aven Colony launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in Q2 2017.”

Lego City Undercover: PS4 VS Switch

With Lego City Undercover out this week many gamers want to know: how does the Nintendo Switch version of the game hold up against the PS4? Well, you can see in the video below.

It’s impressive results for the Switch, especially when you consider its portable factor and size. The PS4 version looks sharper in our opinion but other than that they’re pretty close.
