Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap Final Trailer

Here’s what appears to be the final trailer for Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. The 2D platformer will hit the digital stores for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch tomorrow. It’s also scheduled to be released on PC in June.

Developed by Lizardcube and published by DotEmu, the game boasts multiple characters, HD or 8-bit style graphics, topical humour and a glorious soundtrack.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is based on the 1989 game, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap, released for Sega’s Master System back in the day. Where does the time go?

Your target is the dreaded dragon’s room – good luck!

Nintendo Switch Breaks Sales Records, Sells 906,000 units in the US in March

It seems that Nintendo have proven quite a lot of people wrong. The Nintendo Switch is now their fastest selling console ever, selling 906,000 units in March alone.

Analytics firm NPD Group revealed the new figures that saw The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sell 1.3m copies – 925k of those were for the Switch, 460k for the Wii U.

Yes that’s right, more copies of the game were sold than actual Switch consoles. Why? Basically people really love Zelda and decided to buy two copies of the game…

It’s worth remembering that the Wii U also sold very well at launch with 890k units, but that was after 41 days on the market – the Switch has beaten that in 28 days.

Neon yellow Joy-Cons are launching with Arms on June 16th. It still doesn’t improve that D-pad though

Nintendo’s share price at the time of writing is now 2.06% up – it seems even the fickle shareholders are liking what they see. The Super Mario maker will be providing its own set of figures at the end of the month, but for now, this is impressive stuff.

The company will need to keep the momentum going, however, as we all know that console sales can dip dramatically after an initial rush. See the poor Wii U.

Still, there’s going to be some champagne bottles being popped at Nintendo HQ right about now.

Splatoon 2 Coming 21st July, Arms on June 16th to Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has announced release dates for its two key Nintendo Switch titles: Arms and Splatoon 2.

Arms punches its way to gamers on June 16th while Splatoon 2 is coming on July 21st.

The latest Nintendo Direct presentation had lots of other juicy details including a new Pikmin game for the 3DS literally called ‘Hey Pikmin’. Hey Pikmin hits the 3DS on the 28th July.

Did the Nintendo Direct live up to your expectations?

Welcome to D-pad Joy

Get a life – a virtual one you mean?

We always thought it was funny when people used that saying. Especially as we’re always getting lives with our D-pads. There’s no way you can keep going without making sure you’ve got a good stock of them right?

Well, that’s what D-pad Joy is all about. We play and talk video games, but more importantly, we’re proud to play and talk video games. It’s a wonderful pastime that we, and many others, hold dear in our joyful hearts.

And yet, video games are still regularly attacked for ‘promoting violence’, ‘creating anti-social individuals’ and causing ‘mayhem in our society’. None of this is true, of course. But here we are.

We’ll be happy when the above claims are dropped against video games. We’ll also be delighted when video games are truly, and rightfully, recognised as the works of art that they are.

Until that day dear reader, keep gaming, and keep being awesome.

Nintendo Direct Coming Tomorrow, Will Cover Switch and 3DS Games

You can stop ticking the days off, a new Nintendo Direct is coming. The presentation will take place tomorrow at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK / midnight CET. Yes, it’s time to hype it beyond belief, only to be disappointed later.

According to Nintendo the focus will primarily be on ‘ARMS and Splatoon 2‘, although both the Switch and 3DS are mentioned as well. What about the Wii U? Oh, right…

Are you excited?

Lego City Undercover: PS4 VS Switch

With Lego City Undercover out this week many gamers want to know: how does the Nintendo Switch version of the game hold up against the PS4? Well, you can see in the video below.

It’s impressive results for the Switch, especially when you consider its portable factor and size. The PS4 version looks sharper in our opinion but other than that they’re pretty close.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Gets New Frame Rate Patch

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has recieved a new patch that removes a series of glitches in the game (there aren’t many), and increases the frame rate.

The patch brings Breath of the Wild up to version (1.1.1) and improves the frame rate issues that some players have encountered in built-up areas in the game –  The Lost Woods for example.

It’s worth noting that the frame rate dips don’t always happen in the same place every time either. It will be a while before we know how successful this patch is then.

New DLC for the game will be released in the summer and at the end of the year. It includes the following:

DLC

  • 3 Expansion Packs
  • Expansion Pass Bonus (available at launch) – 3 Treasure Chests
  • DLC Pack 1 Summer 2017 – Adds New Cave of Trials challenge, New Hard Mode and Additional Map Feature
  • DLC Pack 2 Holiday 2017 – New Original Story, New Dungeon, Additional Challenges

The Nintendo Switch Finally Has A Daylight Savings Feature

Those of you in the UK will have adjusted your clocks last Sunday, (or not), in preparation for the longer, more sunny days ahead of us. Well, it turns out that Nintendo had you covered with the Switch – whether you noticed or not.

Nintendo’s systems in the past, both handheld and home consoles, have always struggled with Daylight Savings. To the best of our knowledge, they have never automatically updated themselves when this strange phenomenon occurs.

Cue the Switch. We checked our new system on the big day and were pleasantly surprised to see that it had, in fact, accounted for the change in time automatically. Yes, that’s right, no more manually adjusting the time on your Nintendo consoles. We’ve joined the modern world. Even the Hero of Time himself would be impressed.

Ok, so not exactly a killer feature, sure, but it makes everything that little bit smoother in a busy world, right?
