Beat Hazard 2

Cold Beam Games announces Beat Hazard 2

It’s somehow already been 8 years since the release of indie hit Beat Hazard. I had a lot of fun with that back in the day.

Beat Hazard 2 – It Only Gets Better

In case you didn’t know, the original Beat Hazard allowed you to experience your music collection inside the game which would, in turn, power-up your spaceship and firepower. Having Toto’s Hold The Line playing in the background while you blast things away? Delightfully odd.

Beat Hazard

So it’s probably a good time to polish up your music collection, as the developers, Cold Beam Games, have announced the sequel Beat Hazard 2. The difference this time around? Beat Hazard 2 will include procedurally generated boss ships. Each of your songs creates a unique ‘archenemy’ ship for you to vanquish:

A new original soundtrack composed by Johnny Frizz, who contributed tracks to the original Beat Hazard, will feature in the game for those that don’t want to be reminded of their own music. There’s also the option of battling against your friends.

One to watch if you love gaming and music and want to see them work together in sweet harmony. You can expect Beat Hazard 2 in Q3 2018 for PC.

Lost Sphear

Lost Sphear is out today for Switch, PS4 and Steam

JRPG fans take note: Lost Sphear is out today for Switch, PS4 and Steam.

Lost Sphear: Kanata’s Quest To Save Reality

We first noticed the allure of Lost Sphear way back in May of last year. So with that said, what’s it all about?

Well, Tokyo RPG Factory’s new game takes place in a world where people are inexplicably vanishing. Loved ones are no longer there. The flowers are fading, and the world is turning cold.

What’s causing this? That’s where you, a young boy named Kanata, come in. Oh, and don’t forget the ominous darkness threatening the very fabric of reality. Here’s a trailer for you:

The JRPG quest to save us all features the following:

  • Turn-based battles – You can fight with the freedom of strategic movement in turn-based battles
  • ‘Vulcosuits’ – You deploy Vulcosuit armour in the fields and in battle to amplify your abilities and execute skills
  • A moving soundtrack – I Am Setsuna’s composer Tomoki Miyoshi is back!

Lost Sphear is out digitally on all of the key stores, while a physical package for PS4 and Switch is available for pre-order only from Square Enix’s store: here be the PS4 and Switch versions.

You can also download the ‘Day One’ patch for the game on all platforms which adds a number of free upgrades including new equipment and artefacts, a new dungeon, the new Moonlight Battleground mode and, we’re told, even more.

Photographs

Photographs – the new game from ‘You Must Build a Boat’ creator, Luca Redwood

You may not know the name Luca Redwood, but you should certainly know his games. Both ‘You Must Build a Boat‘ and ‘1000000‘ are absolute must-haves for anyone that wants to play a ‘proper’ game on their mobile device. They’re both excellent puzzle games that have elements of RPG-like progression and they’re probably both dirt cheap now. Go get.

Anyway, with that in mind, it’s time to get excited about Luca’s next game, ‘Photographs’. It’s labelled as a ‘narrative puzzle game’ that interweaves five unique tales into one. The exact details of what these stories involve aren’t exactly spelt out, as you’d imagine, but they’re being touted as ‘tragic stories’. So don’t expect this to be a light-hearted affair.

What’s also worth noting is the art and music. Octavi Navarro is behind the beautiful pixel-art that’s shown throughout the trailer (and presumably the rest of the game). I’d seriously recommend you check out Thimbleweed Park, which she worked on, and her website.

When it comes to the audio, that’s courtesy of Ben Prunty and his previous credits include ‘FTL’ – which had some wonderful music.

So if you aren’t excited by this game now then you never will be. Sadly, there’s no concrete release date but we do know it will hit Steam, iOS and Android sometime this year. We’ll keep you posted.
