The smaller New Nintendo 3DS has been discontinued

Nintendo is ending production of the smaller model of the New Nintendo 3DS. It began doing so yesterday in Japan.

Takeaways:

  • The New Nintendo 3DS is being discontinued, but the larger model, the XL, will continue to be produced.
  • The New Nintendo 3DS was smaller and more portable than the XL and was known for its changeable faceplates.
  • Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the New Nintendo 3DS had been discontinued over here as well.
  • The New Nintendo 3DS was never sold in North America – only in special bundles and promotions.

Don’t fret though. That still leaves us with the, ahem, new, New Nintendo 2DS XL (out 28th July, minus the 3D) and the New Nintendo 3DS XL with its larger screens.
